Versant Power preparing for winter storm

Sunday, January 15, 2023

Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine — Versant Power is preparing for impacts of a storm expected to bring sleet, freezing rain and high winds to northern and eastern Maine late Sunday through Monday evening. Sleet and snow combined with freezing rain are predicted to begin Downeast in Washington and Hancock County Sunday evening and spread across the rest of our service territory Monday morning through the evening. Ice accumulation and winds are expected to be highest Downeast.

“Ice accumulation can weigh down power lines and trees, bringing down lines and causing unsafe travel conditions and power outages,” said Stan Hartin, storm manager for Versant Power. “We have field crews ready to respond tonight and throughout the day and night Monday to address hazardous conditions and make any necessary repairs safely and as quickly as possible.”

Versant Power asks customers to prepare for dangerous travel conditions and power outages.

-        If you must travel, watch for downed trees, branches or power lines.

-        Ensure you have a supply of fresh water.

-        Stock up on easy-to-make nonperishable food items.

-        Charge your cellphone and other electronic devices.

-        Prepare flashlights and a battery-operated radio in case you must shelter in place until it is safe to travel.
