Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine — Versant Power is pleased to announce that John Flynn assumes the role of President of the company, effective November 30, 2020.

John replaces outgoing President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Herrin, who announced last year that he would be departing at the end of 2020. In support of Mike’s planned departure, an extensive executive search process was conducted for this key role and John was the successful candidate.

To ensure an orderly leadership transition, Mike will remain with Versant Power through the end of December 2020. Since first assuming the role of President in 2018, Mike has successfully ushered in strong safety performance, advancements in employee engagement, and a range of reliability and customer service improvements while navigating an unprecedented period of change and challenge within the state of Maine.

John comes to Versant Power with more than 30 years of industry experience with utilities in New England and throughout the United States. An energetic and dynamic leader, he brings decades of expertise in large utility project execution, strategic planning, business development, risk management, financial expertise and regulatory acumen. Most recently, John led the Strategy & Public Affairs team for Vermont Electric Co. and held previous roles as Global Head of Strategy & Development and Senior Vice President of Strategy & Development with National Grid, as well as leadership positions within American Transmission Company and American Electric Power.

Originally from Connecticut, John graduated from Fairfield University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and received further education from the University of Michigan School of Business and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School.

“I am very pleased to join the dedicated and talented team at Versant Power, and look forward to getting to know the team, our valued customers and our many important stakeholders as we continue to deliver essential electricity services to the communities of eastern and northern Maine,” said John Flynn. “I want to take this opportunity to recognize Mike Herrin for his legacy of leadership and commitment to safety and service. Through his efforts and that of the entire team, Versant Power is poised to continue to serve the state of Maine well with an unwavering focus on safety, reliability and enabling Maine’s exciting energy future.”

“I’m tremendously proud of the Versant Power team as we have remained focused on safely delivering service to our customers in these unprecedented times,” said Mike. “It has been an honor to serve our customers and contribute to the future of the great state of Maine. As the company moves forward, I am confident that under John’s leadership, Versant Power’s commitments to our customers and communities will continue to be delivered on, and I look forward to partnering to ensure a smooth transition ahead.”
