Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine –Versant Power was pleased to invest more than $450,000 in the communities where we live and work over the past year.  Through our community investment program, we supported a broad range of needs while focusing major gifts to help address specific hurdles that non-profit organizations in our service territory are working to overcome.

2021 Giving 2

“Early in 2021, we started our community investment process in a thoughtful way by meeting with local organizations to discuss their most pressing needs for the year,” said John Flynn, Versant Power President, “Through the process, we identified key themes of giving and were able to contribute major gifts to address the areas of mental health, housing security and energy affordability.”

In spring of 2021, Aroostook Agency on Aging, Eastern Area Agency on Aging and Maine Seacoast Mission received funds to combat social isolation and promote mental health. Last summer, The Bangor Homeless Shelter, H.O.M.E. Inc. and Homeless Services of Aroostook were awarded funds to help community members in need of safe, sustainable, and affordable housing. At year end, Aroostook County Action Program, Penquis and Downeast Community Partners received funds for their heating assistance programs. While these deserving organizations received a large portion of our charitable gifts, additional groups across northern and eastern Maine were also supported.

“Versant Power was pleased to sponsor over 50 community programs and events in 2021,” said Flynn, “Many of these initiatives promoted our service territory’s economic development, environmental sustainability, and educational advancement.”

Versant Power continued to sponsor community fairs and festivals including the Northern Maine Fair and the Eastport Pirate Festival as well as traditional holiday gift and lighting programs.  The company supported Electrify MDI and A Climate to Thrive in efforts to encourage people to use power more efficiently. We continued to support the University of Maine’s engineering department and programming at the Versant Power Astronomy Center.
