Energy Supply Relief Credit

What is the energy supply relief credit?
The one-time, $90 electricity bill credit to eligible customers was proposed by Governor's Energy Office and the Office of the Public Advocate and approved by the Maine Public Utilities Commission on February 17, 2022.

How do I qualify for this credit?
Eligible customers include primary utility account holders enrolled in SNAP, TANF, or MaineCare through DHHS with an income at or below 150% of federal poverty level and Versant Power’s Low Income Assistance Program (LIAP) by March 15, 2022 or during the last program year. To receive a credit, customers must have been participating in a qualifying program and meet poverty guidelines at the time of the match. Customers are unable to apply for the credit.

When and how will I receive the credit?
Customers eligible for a credit can expect to see their credit on their March or April bill. Credits will be applied automatically, and customers do not need to take any action.

What if I don't qualify for the credit but need help paying my bill?
Many bills have increased because of higher electricity use in the cold weather as well as the supply price increase. If you are having trouble affording your bill, there may be resources available to help.

Local Community Action Programs offer applications for assistance programs including the Home Energy Assistance Program, the Low-Income Assistance Program and the Arrearage Management Program. Customers also may be eligible for assistance through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program or Efficiency Maine.
