Versant Power preparing for strong winds
Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine — Versant Power is preparing for potential impacts from another windstorm expected to begin early Saturday afternoon and last into Sunday. Wind gusts up to 60mph are predicted throughout our service territory, particularly along the coast.
“As we saw with Wednesday night’s windstorm, Saturday afternoon’s forecast with wind gusts of 35-40mph inland and possibly over 60mph along the coast have the potential to bring trees and tree limbs down on to the lines,” said Allison Doughty, storm manager for Versant Power. “You can’t tell if a downed line is live just by looking at it. Remember it is never safe to touch or drive over a downed line.”
Versant Power asks customers to prepare for the possibility of difficult travel conditions and power outages. You can prepare by:
- Ensuring you have a supply of fresh water.
- Stocking up on easy-to-make nonperishable food items.
- Charging your cellphone and other electronic devices.
- Preparing flashlights and a battery-operated radio in case you must shelter in place until it is safe to travel.
- If you must travel, be watchful for downed trees, branches or power lines.
- If you have a generator, review the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure you use it safely.
In addition to crews in the field, Versant Power will have extra Customer Service Representatives and other support staff ready to help if your power goes out. You can fill out a Power Issue Report Form at versantpower.com or call our Customer Contact Center at 1-855-363-7211 or 207-973-2000. Customers in can also report an outage directly from their Online Services account. Updates will be shared at versantpower.com or on Twitter @versantpower.
