Bangor and Presque Isle, ME - Versant Power invested more than $700,000 in communities throughout northern and eastern Maine in 2024. Community investments supported a broad range of organizations along with specific initiatives to address energy affordability, basic needs, and programs selected by employees.

“In 2024 we continued to focus on energy affordability and helping non-profit organizations with heating assistance funds, heat pump donations, building weatherization, and energy efficiency projects,” said Versant Power President John Flynn. “Over 45% of our community investments last year supported customers with energy affordability programs like these.”

In partnership with Aroostook County Action Program, Penquis Community Action Program, and Downeast Community Partners, more than $19,000 in matching funds were distributed through our Power Match  program. Power Match is a charitable matching program that provides energy assistance to customers in need.

Versant Power employees continued to support the Heart of Maine United Way and United Way of Aroostook through their annual campaigns and the company matched their fundraising totals. The company also supported food insecurity initiatives through gifts to Meals on Wheels, local food pantries, and Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Versant team members volunteered more than 900 hours at 25 non-profit organizations through the Power Partners employee volunteer and fundraising program. To encourage and recognize the team’s volunteer efforts and community involvement, the company provided more than $14,500 to the groups they helped.

“To celebrate our 100th anniversary, we asked community groups to apply for one of (10) $10,000 charitable gifts,” said Versant President John Flynn. “We received over 200 applications, and our team members voted on the 10 recipients.”

Along with the 100th anniversary grant program, Versant continued to sponsor over 80 programs and events this year, supporting education, safety, and economic development. 2024 funding supported scholarship programs at local community colleges, UMaine, and Husson University.

To promote safe viewing of April’s solar eclipse, the company partnered with the Versant Power Astronomy Center to provide safety glasses to students, employees, and community members. 2024 sponsorships also included economic development initiatives like community fairs and festivals. The Crown of Maine Balloon Festival, Maine Science Festival, Health Equity Alliance Bangor Pride Celebration, and the holiday light parades in Bangor and Presque Isle were just some of the recipients.
