December 30, 2024 Bangor and Presque Isle, ME – Most residential customers will see an overall increase in their bills effective January 1. A standard offer supply rate increase will take effect in the Bangor Hydro and Maine Public Districts. The Bangor Hydro District will also see an increase in the transmission rate on their bills. · A typical residential customer in the Bangor Hydro District using 500 kilowatt-hours per month and paying $135.69 for delivery and Standard Offer supply will now pay $142.69, a $7.00 increase. If that customer uses 750 kilowatt-hours per month, they will see a $10.52 increase, and if they use 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month, they will see an increase of $14.02 per month. · A typical residential customer in the Maine Public District using 500 kilowatt-hours per month and paying $132.49 for delivery and Standard Offer supply will now pay $134.33, a $1.84 increase. If that customer uses 750 kilowatt-hours per month, they will see a $2.76 increase and if they use 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month, they will see a $3.68 increase. Maine customers have a choice of who provides their electricity supply. If you don't choose a competitive electricity supplier, you will automatically receive Standard Offer service. Versant Power does not generate or supply electricity and does not control or benefit from changes in supply prices. As announced by the Maine Public Utilities Commission in November, customers who choose the standard offer and use 500 kilowatt-hours per month will see a $1.49 per month increase in the Bangor Hydro District and a $1.84 increase in the Maine Public District. The average Bangor Hydro District residential customer using 500 kilowatt-hours per month will pay $5.51 more for transmission per month. Transmission rates are set by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) using a preset formula and cover needed investments in our local transmission system as well as regional investments associated with other New England transmission owners. Transmission rates change in the Maine Public District each July.
