Utility scam education effort launched by Versant Power

Release Date:  11-14-2022

This week, Versant Power is participating in National Consumer Protection Week to educate customers on utility scams with the help of Utilities United Against Scams.

Scammers continue to use sophisticated tactics and often will threaten utility service disconnections unless an immediate payment is made with a prepaid debit card, a gift card, cryptocurrency, or through third-party digital payment mobile applications.

“If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be a Versant representative, hang up the phone and call us directly at 207-973-2000,” said Dave Bowler, Security Specialist at Versant Power. “A Versant representative will never call you demanding immediate payment with a threat of disconnection. If the call you receive doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.”

Should you ever have any questions about your account status, balance, payment options, or anything else about your service, please contact our Customer Contact Center. If you have fallen victim to the scam and paid the fraudulent caller, we encourage you to report the scam to local law enforcement as well as the attorney general’s office. The AG may be reached toll free at 1-800-436-2131 or by email at [email protected].
