Versant Power preparing for strong winds

Release Date:  11-30-2022

Bangor and Presque Isle, Maine — Versant Power is preparing for impacts of a storm expected to bring high winds Wednesday afternoon into Thursday. Wind gusts up to 60mph are predicted throughout our service territory, particularly along the coast.

“We are closely monitoring the weather and working to ensure we have field crews positioned to address public safety issues, begin assessing any damage, and make repairs if winds and falling trees cause damage to the electrical system,” said Janet Scully, storm manager for Versant Power. “High winds can bring down trees and limbs onto roads and power lines, and it is never safe to touch a downed lined or a tree in contact with a downed line.”

Versant Power asks customers to prepare for the possibility of difficult travel conditions and power outages. You can prepare by:

  • Ensuring you have a supply of fresh water.
  • Stocking up on easy-to-make nonperishable food items.
  • Charging your cellphone and other electronic devices.
  • Preparing flashlights and a battery-operated radio in case you must shelter in place until it is safe to travel.
  • If you must travel, be watchful for downed trees, branches or power lines.
  • If you have a generator, review the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure you use it safely.

In addition to crews in the field, Versant Power will have extra Customer Service Representatives and other support staff ready to help if your power goes out. You can fill out a Power Issue Report Form at versantpower.com or call our Customer Contact Center at 1-855-363-7211 or 207-973-2000. Customers in can also report an outage directly from their Online Services account.
