This summer marks Versant Power's 100^th anniversary, and we're celebrating 100 years of providing safe and reliable power to northern and eastern Maine.

‌Our timeline began when the Bangor Hydro-Electric Company was organized in the summer of 1924.  Four years later, in 1928, the Maine Public Service Company was founded. In 2001, Bangor Hydro became part of Emera Inc., which later acquired the Maine Public Service Company in 2010. The two companies formally merged as one utility in 2014, which is now Versant Power.




Throughout 2024, you'll see historical information, customer features, and even special giveaways.

Versant Power provides electric delivery service to two areas – the Bangor Hydro District and the Maine Public District.

            The Bangor Hydro District includes Hancock, Piscataquis and Washington Counties and most of Penobscot County.
            The Maine Public District serves Aroostook County and a small piece of Penobscot County.
